Haggis: Keeper of the Peace

Haggis has a simple philosophy: most problems improve if you wait long enough before getting involved.

As a laid-back Halmahera blue-tongued skink, Haggis is perfectly content to spend his mornings with his head hanging out of his humid hide, quietly watching the chaos of the Reptile Room unfold. Wasabi can declare an emergency. Spam can investigate something ridiculous. Fruit Salad can worry about food. Haggis has no intention of getting involved.

Unless there are hornworms.

But when boxes begin appearing, familiar things start moving, and a mysterious newcomer arrives in the Reptile Room, Haggis discovers something deeply inconvenient: everyone seems to think his ability to remain calm makes him wise.

Even worse, they start asking for advice.

As the newcomer struggles to settle in, Haggis does what he does best—he watches. Soon, however, he realizes that something isn't right. For once, waiting may not be enough.

Now the skink famous for never moving unless he has a very good reason must decide whether this is finally a reason good enough.

Funny, heartfelt, and told through the wonderfully dry observations of a reptile who would prefer not to be responsible for anything, Haggis: Keeper of the Peace is a story about change, trust, paying attention, and discovering that sometimes being the calm one means knowing when it’s finally time to move.

The Reptile Room has changed.
Haggis would like everyone to know that this is not necessarily his problem.
